You’ve probably heard about Masterclass, but you may have no idea what it is exactly. Well, don’t stress, because I’m going to tell you all about it!
I first heard about it from a friend who knows my love for author R.L. Stine. Stine, the well-known author of over 300 children’s horror books such as Goosebumps and Fear Street, was doing a Masterclass, so I had to check it out. Masterclass is basically this: a series of videos that consist of tutorials, interviews, tips, and ideas in many different topics besides writing. With over 35 Masterclasses, you can also check out classes by Serena Williams (tennis), Spike Lee (film), Christina Aguilera (music), Steve Martin (comedy), and so many others! Each lesson is about 12 minutes long and each course consists of around 24 lessons on average.
I was lucky and was able to take full advantage of a trial offer: one week unlimited access for free. I jumped at this opportunity! I began with Stine’s Masterclass, quickly downloading the workbook that goes along with the class. There were 28 lessons in his class! And the best part was that there isn’t homework – this isn’t your typical online course. This is incredibly entertaining and insightful, and you participate as much or as little as you want. In Stine’s courses, I learned things like the importance of a story outline, character development, how to write for certain age ranges, dialogue, and a lot more.
R.L. Stine’s class of 28 courses is $90.00. But, trust me and do the full year unlimited all-access pass for only $180.00. It’s the best deal because you get access to all the masterclasses! And it’s not just writing, like I mentioned above. There are tons of classes to choose from. If you prefer to stick within the writing category, you can also check out classes from authors James Patterson, Margaret Atwood, or Judy Blume, among others. This also makes a great gift and they have a “gift” option you can purchase!
After I finished R.L. Stine’s Masterclass, I went on to try James Patterson’s and loved it from the very first second! He’s really funny and honest. Overall, I flew through these courses in the one week. I highly recommend it for all aspiring authors. It gave me a new perspective on writing, in general. Plus, I have workbooks that I can refer back to and continue to use.
Have you taken a Masterclass? Let me know which one and your thoughts!
